Introducing
the Piano Tuner
Bill Golden lives in the
Columbus, Ohio area (Westerville) and has been a piano
tuner for more than 30 years. He has tuned
pianos in Columbus and Central Ohio since
1981. Bill is an associate member of the Piano
Technicians Guild, Columbus chapter, and was first schooled in the art of piano tuning
in 1979 by his piano tuner uncle, Nolen B. Golden.
Uncle Nolen was a lifelong musician, composer,
and piano tuner who lived in Dayton, Ohio.
Ron Golden
learned the trade from his Dad and
continues a piano tuning practice in the Dayton,
Ohio area.
Bill
comes from a large family of piano tuners, musicians,
composers, and singers from southwestern
Ohio. Many of his relatives
play such instruments as piano, organ, harmonica,
accordion, and guitar. Others excelled
as singers, both in groups and as soloists. Bill has a cousin who was
an opera performer in West Germany and South
Africa for quite awhile. His Uncle Nolen
led the World War II Army Chapeliers, a singing
group who performed throughout Europe and who
also sang at General Patton's funeral.
"What do you get when you
drop a piano down a mine shaft?"
"A flat minor!"
Bill tunes pianos "by
ear" instead of depending on a tuning device,
a tool which can mislead a piano tuner if not
properly interpreted or kept properly calibrated. While either
an "aural" or a "device" piano
tuning method can
produce a well-tuned piano, Bill believes that
tuning a piano "by ear" achieves the ideal
and most natural
tuned sound for
your piano.
Bill has tuned pianos
for The Ohio State University and Ohio
Dominican University, both located in
Columbus, Ohio. He has also
tuned pianos for national US band,
Dashboard Confessional,
and the British band,
Keane.

How to Change Your Guitar Strings and Still Be Able to Play Your Guitar That Day Posted on 02/08/2010 05:41 PM Changing strings always reminded me of what they used to say about shampoo: ''I just washed my hair and can't do a thing with it!'' You know what I mean. You change your strings and your guitar is unplayable for a day or two.

Christmas Carols Flashback Posted on 02/08/2010 05:28 PM Do you believe that the first carols were not really Christian carols? In the first place, Winter Solstice or the shortest day of the year was the original occasion being celebrated around the time we consider as Christmas holidays now.
Let the Children Sing Posted on 02/08/2010 05:23 PM Singing has always been known to be a method of expressing ourselves. The reason there are many types of songs is that because composers and lyricists feel and project different moods as they create their craft. Some people feel that singing makes them cry thus venting out their feelings and others just want to hear calm relaxing music to soothe and help them sleep.
Joy to the World Posted on 02/08/2010 05:22 PM Sometimes you get the feeling that smiling people during holidays are plastic. You do not even see the reason why they have to change their old frowning face with a temporary touch of smile just for the holidays. If this is your reaction, then maybe you do not understand the real reason why most people give the effort of forgiving others, sharing gifts, and keeping a cheerful face.
