Introducing
the Piano Tuner
Bill Golden has been a piano
tuner for more than 29 years and has tuned
pianos in Columbus and Central Ohio since
1981. He is an associate member of the Piano
Technicians Guild, Columbus chapter, and was first schooled in the art of piano tuning
in 1979 by his piano tuner uncle, Nolen B. Golden.
Uncle Nolen was a lifelong musician, composer,
and piano tuner who lived in Dayton, Ohio.
Ron Golden
learned the trade from his Dad and
continues a piano tuning practice in the Dayton,
Ohio area.
Bill
comes from a large family of piano tuners, musicians,
composers, and singers from southwestern
Ohio. Many of his relatives
play such instruments as piano, organ, harmonica,
accordion, and guitar. Others excelled
as singers, both in groups and as soloists. Bill has a cousin who was
an opera performer in West Germany and South
Africa for quite awhile. His Uncle Nolen
led the World War II Army Chapeliers, a singing
group who performed throughout Europe and who
also sang at General Patton's funeral.
Bill tunes pianos "by
ear" instead of depending on a tuning device,
a tool which can mislead a piano tuner if not
properly interpreted or kept properly calibrated. While either
an "aural" or a "device" piano
tuning method can
produce a well-tuned piano, Bill believes that
tuning a piano "by ear" achieves the ideal
tuned sound for
your piano.
Bill has tuned pianos
for The Ohio State University and Ohio
Dominican University, both located in
Columbus, Ohio. He has also
tuned pianos for national US band,
Dashboard Confessional,
and the British band,
Keane.

Gucci Mane Icy - A Breakthrough Hip Hop Song Posted on 07/03/2009 06:49 PM The song called "Icy" was a break-through record for the southern artist Gucci Mane. It was his first real chance to gain the attention of people all across America for the first time ever in the rap game. This song was an anthem that he came up with to express how he felt about jewelry, or as slang would imply, "ice."
The Michael Jackson Phenomenon Posted on 07/03/2009 06:30 PM Michael Jackson was an American phenomenon of unsurpassed talent, yet a troubled soul. The affect he had on millions of people was truly astounding.
The King is Dead - So is His Music Era Posted on 07/03/2009 06:02 PM I've travelled a lot. I've been to some of the most destitute corners of the world. Places that have no running water or electricity. Places where eating 3 meals a day is the exception. Places like Cameroon, Central Africa where the majority of people live on less than a dollar a day and don't even know how to begin thinking about the outside world. But no matter where I've been, the one thing that everyone has in common is that they know the name Michael Jackson.
Some Reasons Why Children Need Online Violin Lessons Posted on 07/03/2009 05:59 PM Even though you may know that music is vital for a well rounded education, it is often hard to find a way to pay for private music lessons. Today, online violin lessons can make it easier for you to afford the kind of musical training that you want your children to have. In most cases, you may even be able reuse the same course materials for each child in your home.

Today's "Google" Guitar Player Posted on 07/03/2009 05:11 PM Nowadays a whole new generation of "Google" guitar players have emerged. Hopping from site to site, jumping on YouTube, grabbing free lessons and snippets of guitar here and there. Would you go to a "Google" doctor? Would you live in a house built by a "Google" contractor?
The Development of Blues Music Posted on 07/03/2009 12:02 PM Jazz, rock music and country and western are just some of the styles that owe a lot of their progression from the original blues. The contribution of Blues music to the development of many other genres of music is very significant. Blues was originally grown out of the hardships endured by many generations of African Americans, and first arose from the rural Mississippi region, around about the time of the dawn of the 20th century. The style developed from work shouts (known as arhoolies), and became the vocal narrative style that we associate with blues music today.
The Ups & Downs of Multi-Effects Guitar Pedals Posted on 07/03/2009 11:13 AM Have you ever seen those guys on stage with a million or so effects pedals laid out at their feet? Patch cables slithering like a bed of snakes through a maze of distortions, delays, choruses, flanges, wah's, envelope filters, octave dividers, EQ's, tuners, and the list goes on...
Lead Guitar Players - "Baffle" Your Audience Posted on 07/03/2009 11:12 AM If you play electric lead guitar with an amp, it's only a matter of time before you get the "turn it down" signal from someone. Whether it's the "hands over the ears" indicator, the downward hand gesture from a patron, or a note on a napkin from the club manager. Here's how to cure that...
